Pronunciation of -es'[edit]

The pronunciation section reads "pronunciation of -es'". Is the suffix -es used here? If so which meaning(s)? --Backinstadiums (talk) 16:35, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

/pɹɪn.sɛs.ɪz.ɪz/[edit]

I believe I might say /dɪkɪnzɪz/ or /bɔɪzɪz/ interchangably with /dɪkɪnz/ or /bɔɪz/ as a matter of emphasis. But I don't think I would say /pɹɪn.sɛs.ɪz.ɪz/ on the basis of the tongue-twisting nature of it and honestly I would like to see a reference or citation to prove that it actually happens. I think I would say /ˈɡɹæn(d)pɛəɹəntz/ for grandparents' unless I wanted to emphasis the possessive, and then I would reword to something else, but in a pinch I might go to /ˈɡɹæn(d)pɛəɹəntzɪz/. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 18:00, 13 October 2023 (UTC)Reply
